Vikingeskib til Canada
Jan Partoft

(Roskilde, Denmark) Translation:
 “Viking Boat to Canada”

The boat builders from the Viking Ship Museum have delivered a copy of a Norwegian Gokstad Boat to the Danish Canadian National Museum, located in Dickson in the Canadian province Alberta.  The boat has been built through the recent eight months.  The boat was christened on Wednesday, when it received the name Freydis Joanna.  The boat will now be packed in a container and sent to Halifax on Canada’s east coast.  There it will be put on a trailer and driven through Canada to the museum in Dickson.  During the trip the boat will be displayed at the various local museums that are along the route.  On the picture, from the left is Gunnar Kristensen, president of the Danish Canadian American Friendship Society, Egon Sommer, one of the family which gave the money to build the boat.  It is also he who will be the driver for the boat’s trip from Halifax to Dickson.  The woman in the picture is Kirsten Asperud, who christened the boat.  The man to the right is Carl Sorensen, who is president of the Board of the Danish Canadian National Museum.

(Translator’s note: The latter description of Carl Sorensen is in error.  Carl Sorensen is a member of the Board of the Museum Society, but is not the president.)
